CENTER REGION

The Centre Region is one of the ten Regions of Cameroon, located in the centre of the country. Its Chief-town is Yaoundé, which is also the political capital of the country. The surface area of this Region is 68,926 km2.

The Centre Region is made up 10 Divisions, namely, Haute Sanaga, Lékié, Mbam and Inoubou, Mbam and Kim, Mefou and Afamba, Mefou and Akono, Mfoundi, Nyong and Kellé, Nyong and Mfoumou, and the Nyong and Soo.

The Centre Region has a City Council and 70 Municipal Councils. In 2015, it had an estimated population of 5,000,000 and an average density ratio of 73 inhabitants per square kilometre.

Culturally, the Region is basically made up of the Ekang, the Bafia, the Yambassa, the Bassa, the Eton, the Ewondo tribes, etc. with a musical heritage of Bikutsi and Assiko.

With regard to its environment, together with its neighbouring Littoral Region, it harbours an exceptionally rich area of well-preserved ecological environment. The Forest Management Units (FMUs), the natural parks and protected areas are found in this Region.
